Meet John Daly
John Daly is a licensed non-practicing attorney who has served as a leader in the insurance industry since 1987.
After growing up in an "insurance household", John received his BBA from Western Michigan University and his Law Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. He initially entered the healthcare industry in New York City serving hospitals and nursing homes in the Tristate area. His five years in sales and management with the Surgical & Patient Care Divisions of Procter & Gamble gave him a strong understanding of the importance of delivering full value in his business relationships. His love for the industry made for a natural transition in returning to Michigan to run the Life & Benefits Division in the family insurance business.
Joining his father and his brothers who focused on other areas of the business, John grew the Life & Benefits Division from a fledgling operation to one of the larger employee benefits agencies in Southeast Michigan. Along the way, John contributed a substantial percentage of both new business sales and ongoing agency revenue, handling many of the largest and most complex accounts in the agency. During his early years with the family insurance agency, and while running the Life & Benefits Division, John earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and was promptly sworn in as a licensed attorney in the State of Michigan.
After 27 years working in the family insurance business, John bucked conventional wisdom and struck out on his own. He sold all of his interest in the family insurance business (Daly Merritt Insurance), family real estate business (DM Properties), and veterinary hospital (Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital), and formed Benefit Plan Strategies LLC. His intention was to have complete autonomy in designing and applying an even higher level of strategic thinking, collaboration and problem solving to the continuing problem of escalating employee benefit costs.
John specializes in group benefit plans, retirement plans, key employee retention plans and executive planning. He has expertise in all aspects of group benefits program development, implementation and ongoing service. He has been recognized for his knowledge of, and his ability to integrate, various technology tools that can be applied to reduce the administrative burden of HR. He has conducted independent consulting work in the technology area for the benefit of larger employers, and has partnered with some of the largest and most financially stable technology providers in the industry. John has been a proud and involved resident of the Township of Grosse Ile since 1998. He and his wife have four wonderful children who love the island for their home. He has a vested interest in seeing his friends and neighbors succeed. As a loving father of four children, ranging in age from 12 years to 18 years, he has many of the same hopes and aspirations as his clients.
